Volunteer Position Description

Position: Board of Directors (minimum of 5 members maximum of 13, 1 City Ex Officio, 1 Chamber Ex Officio, 1 Merchants Association Ex Officio, 1 Greek Orthodox Church Ex Officio, 1 County Ex Officio, and Executive Director)

Location: TSDD | 31 W. Tarpon Ave. | Tarpon Springs, FL. 34689

Schedule: Monthly meetings held on the third Thursday of the month beginning at 3:00pm at COhatch | 123 W. Tarpon Ave. | Tarpon Springs, FL. 34689

Term Length: Directors are appointed for three-year terms, effective following Annual Member Meeting

Responsibilities:
Collectively, the Board of Directors assumes legal and philosophical responsibility, establishing policy for all activities of the Main Street Program. Board members provide leadership for the program, participate in strategic planning, raise operating and capital funds, participate in committee planning and tasks, and serve as advocates of downtown revitalization efforts. Board members represent the larger view of why downtown revitalization is crucial for the entire community.

Board members should demonstrate interest in the Main Street Program’s purpose and goals. Experience in or knowledge of administration, finance, program development, advertising, public relations, downtown business activity, communications, design, and/or economic development, a plus. Each Board member should be willing to invest approximately 5 -10 hours per month in the future of Tarpon Springs Downtown District (TSDD)

Board Member Tasks and Requirements:

  1. Board members understand the responsibility to advocate for the TSDD program, educate the community, and promote our mission.
  2. Attend the monthly Board of Directors meetings, missing no more than three meetings per year. [Monthly Board Meetings are typically scheduled for the third Thursday of the month at 3:00pm and can last up to 90 minutes.]

    *Board, training, and planning are all required meetings. Training and Planning meetings will take place from 8am until noon.

    Board members are highly encouraged to attend Main Street workshops or conferences, to strengthen their knowledge and connection to the program. These are optional and at the board member’s own expense, but participation is strongly valued and supported.
  3. Attend special-called meetings and the Annual Membership Meeting. Members are required to attend an annual planning retreat and participate in the development and adoption of annual Work Plans, utilizing Main Street’s 4 Point Approach® ensuring they are consistent with TSDD’s mission, vision, and goals.
  4. Serve as a working member on at least one Point committee or sub-committee each year.
    • The four Main Street Points are Design, Economic Vitality Committee, Organization, and Promotion.
    • Current sub-committees include Fundraising; Promotional, and Special Events
    • Board members should anticipate serving in a leadership position for at least one year during each three-year term as either an executive officer or Point chair.
  5. Ensure TSDD is compliant with all legal, financial, and governmental requirements as described in the Bylaws and furthermore, maintains a “good standing” status with Florida Main Street and Main Street America by meeting all training, reporting, and program requirements.
  6. Demonstrate an ability and willingness to raise money for operation of the Program. Directors are expected to participate in seeking partnership, sponsorship and an annual funding campaign.
  7. Active board members must be Investing Partners (dues) and maintain a good standing.
  8. Volunteer for TSDD events and play an active role to recruit, inspire, guide, and support TSDD committee, event, task volunteers and TSDD staff.
